Drury Hotels celebrates 45th year in business with annual meeting in Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Drury Hotels Company hosted 350 of their national team members in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for the company’s annual managers’ meeting held April 3 – 5 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Cape Girardeau Conference Center. The St. Louis-based company selected the site to host their event in recognition of Drury’s first hotel, which opened 45 years ago in Cape Girardeau.

“In April 1973, my family selected southern Missouri as the location to open our first Drury-branded hotel,” said Chuck Drury, president and CEO of Drury Hotels. “Forty-five years and 150 hotels later, we wanted to bring our team members back to where it all began. As we look ahead and plan for our company’s future, there is no better location to celebrate our 45-year history than in our home town, Cape Girardeau.”

There are four Drury Hotels located in Cape Girardeau. The newest property, the Drury Plaza Hotel Cape Girardeau Conference Center, opened July 2017 and features 168 guest rooms and 14,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space.

The Board of Directors of Drury Southwest, Inc. has approved the following officer changes at its March 13, 2018 board of directors meeting.

Dennis Vollink                                Kevin Whitfield

Dennis Vollink, who has been with Drury Southwest since 1981, will transition from his role as President to Vice President and remain Chairman of the Board.  He will also continue his role as Mechanical Engineer and Company Pilot.

Kevin Whitfield will replace Vollink as President of Drury Southwest, Inc.  Whitfield joined the company in 1983.  Most recently he was Senior Vice President of Design, Development and Construction. In his role as President, Whitfield will be responsible for the company’s long-range

strategic goals and plans along with working with the executive team on site acquisitions, hotel design and construction and project financing.

The Drury Southwest Board of Directors is also pleased to announce the promotion and appointment of the following officers.

Steve Schmittzehe was promoted to Senior Vice President of Accounting/Taxation where he will continue to serve as Controller and oversee the company’s accounting department.

Dave Alberson was promoted to Vice President of Architecture and Design where he will oversee the company’s design and final construction drawings for all projects including renovations and new construction.

Darin Halter was promoted to Vice President of Construction Management where he will be responsible for construction budgets and schedules.

Mark Mehner was promoted to Senior Director of Renovations where he will continue to lead the company’s renovation team along with managing the exterior reimaging of our existing properties.
